SWAN HELLENIC LUXURY CRUISES - ANTARCTICA

Antarctica with South Georgia & Falklands

Round-trip Buenos Aires

"This is the voyage that gets me the most excited every year — tracing Shackleton's own route across the Falklands, South Georgia, and Antarctica aboard Swan Hellenic's newest luxury ship. Rick and I have made this journey twice before, but this time we're bringing our kids along. If that doesn't tell you how special this one is, nothing will." — Tracey

Straight from a fellow traveler

“If you think Alaska is great, it's good, but it doesn't hold a candle to the glaciers, mountain peaks, and sheer beauty of this wild and pristine landscape. Don't think twice — this cruise will blow your socks off!”

— Brent & Lynn K., Lincoln, NE

DAY BY DAY

Your complete itinerary — 19 nights, Round-trip Buenos Aires included

This voyage traces Shackleton's route through three worlds in one: the wildlife-rich Falklands, the wild colonies of South Georgia, and the glaciers of the Antarctic Peninsula. Since your Captain and Discovery Team choose each landing based on ice, weather, and wildlife, the order below reflects a typical departure — no two voyages follow quite the same course.

1Day

Depart Home

Home · Overnight flight

â–ľ
Depart on your overnight flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina — the gateway to Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Falkland Islands, and the start of a 19-night voyage in the footsteps of Ernest Shackleton himself. Antarctica, South Georgia and Falklands expedition map
2Day

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Argentina · Overnight hotel included

â–ľ
Airport transfers included
Welcome to Buenos Aires — the "Paris of South America." Resplendent with Belle Époque buildings, sidewalk cafés, and green spaces, there's a fiery Latin passion here that's hard to resist. Spend the day exploring at your own pace. Highlights include La Boca, a colorful, creative neighborhood with a must-do art walk, and San Telmo, a former aristocratic quarter now home to boutique hotels, antique shops, and legendary tango clubs. Tonight, settle into your included overnight hotel and rest before the adventure begins.
3Day

Buenos Aires to Ushuaia

Argentina · Embarkation · Beagle Channel

â–ľ
Breakfast · DinnerIncluded charter flight to Ushuaia
Board your included flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia — the southernmost city in the world, nestled in the foothills of the snow-capped Martial Range, where colourful streets and mismatched buildings cascade down to the Beagle Channel. Ushuaia carries its "end of the world" reputation well. The Captain and crew warmly welcome you aboard your Swan Hellenic luxury ship, where every guest enjoys a private balcony suite. Toast the start of your once-in-a-lifetime expedition as you cruise through the scenic Beagle Channel, named for the ship that carried Charles Darwin on his own voyage of discovery. Meals: B, D
4Day

At Sea — Bound for the Falklands

Southern Atlantic · Expedition briefings

â–ľ
Breakfast · Lunch · DinnerDiscovery Team briefings
Wake up in your own time as you cruise toward the Falkland Islands. Order breakfast through complimentary room service, or head to the lounge to meet fellow guests. Join your Discovery Team in the ship's lecture theater for an introduction to your polar expedition — they'll explain how your Zodiac excursions will work in the days ahead, and set the scene for the wildlife-rich landings to come. Meals: B, L, D
5Day

West Point & Saunders Island

Falkland Islands · First landings

â–ľ
Breakfast · Lunch · DinnerZodiac excursions includedBlack-browed albatross colony
Your first landings bring you to two of the Falklands' wildest corners. Birdlife is the big draw on lush, sheep-farming West Point Island, where thousands of rams and ewes roam among nesting seabirds. Nearby, black-browed albatross wheel over Saunders Island in their thousands while Commerson's dolphins play in the shallows offshore — an unforgettable introduction to the wildlife spectacle ahead. Meals: B, L, D
6Day

Port Stanley

Falkland Islands · Free time ashore

â–ľ
Breakfast · Lunch · DinnerFree time to explore ashore
Anyone familiar with Britain's trademark red post boxes might spot a resemblance in this British outpost. Port Stanley, on East Falkland, is the tiny capital of the Falkland Islands and small enough to explore entirely on foot. Visit the Historic Dockyard Museum, devoted to maritime history and exploration, or watch Magellanic penguins gather on the beach at nearby Gypsy Cove while sea lions and dolphins frolic in the harbour. Meals: B, L, D
7-8Days

At Sea — Bound for South Georgia

Southern Ocean · Lecture programs

â–ľ
Breakfast · Lunch · DinnerLecture programs & expert talks
Two days at sea carry you deep into the Southern Ocean toward South George — often called the "Galapagos of the Poles." Attend lectures from your Discovery Team — specialists in history, biology, geology, glaciology, and photography — who will bring Shackleton's story and the wildlife ahead to life. Browse the library, unwind in the spa and gym, or simply watch the ocean roll past from your private balcony. Meals: B, L, D
9-12Days

South Georgia

South Georgia · Wildlife capital of the world

â–ľ
Breakfast · Lunch · DinnerZodiac excursions includedShackleton's grave, Grytviken
Four extraordinary days on the island many call the wildlife capital of the world. South Georgia's beaches hold tens of thousands of King and gentoo penguins — among the largest colonies on Earth — alongside harrumphing elephant seals and fur seals by the thousand. Among its most remarkable sites is Grytviken, the historic whaling station where legendary explorer Ernest Shackleton (1874–1922) is laid to rest. Your Captain and Discovery Team choose each landing based on ice, weather, and wildlife, making the most of every hour ashore. Meals: B, L, D
13Day

At Sea — Crossing to Antarctica

Southern Ocean · Discovery Team briefings

â–ľ
Breakfast · Lunch · DinnerDiscovery Team briefings
Leaving South Georgia behind, you sail on toward the seventh continent. Order breakfast through complimentary room service, or head to the lounge to meet fellow guests. Your Discovery Team returns to the lecture theater to prepare you for Antarctica itself — the ice, the scale, and the wildlife that awaits on the Peninsula. Meals: B, L, D
14-18Days

Antarctic Peninsula

Antarctica · Five days among the ice

â–ľ
Breakfast · Lunch · DinnerZodiac excursions includedPolar Plunge opportunity
Step onto your balcony to see icebergs sculpted by nature and glacial mountains rising thousands of meters from the ocean — Antarctica has arrived. Among captivating glaciers and snowy islands, the Antarctic Peninsula is where most visitors live their Antarctica dream. There's no fixed itinerary here — your Captain and Discovery Team choose each landing based on ice, weather, and wildlife, making the most of up to 18–20 hours of daylight. Expect excursions like Mikkelsen Harbour, where gentoo penguins, snowy sheathbills, skuas, and Weddell seals haul out, and — conditions permitting — passage through the photogenic Lemaire Channel, often called "Kodak Alley." Around 12 million penguins call the Peninsula home, and whales — minke, humpback, or orca — are a majestic, frequent sight from the ship's decks or a Zodiac at water level. For the adventurous, this is also your chance for the Polar Plunge, a rite of passage for the brave few who dare the freezing Antarctic waters. Penguin rookery, Antarctic Peninsula Whale encounter, Antarctic Peninsula Passage in Antarctica — Lemaire Channel Meals: B, L, D
19-20Days

At Sea — Drake Passage Homeward

Southern Ocean · Heading for Ushuaia

â–ľ
Breakfast · Lunch · DinnerWide range of premium beverages included
Cruising the Drake Passage back toward South America, there is plenty of time to relax and reflect on three extraordinary weeks. Book a final treatment at the ship's spa, catch up on laundry with the complimentary self-service facilities, or simply enjoy the open decks as land comes back into view. In the evening, settle in with a glass of wine, beer, or your spirit of choice — all included — and share stories from the journey with the friends you've made at the bottom of the world. Meals: B, L, D
21Day

Ushuaia to Buenos Aires

Argentina · Disembarkation · Flight home

â–ľ
Breakfast includedIncluded transfer flight to Buenos Aires
Your voyage ends this morning as you bid farewell to the crew and fellow guests. Disembark after breakfast and board your included flight to Buenos Aires, taking home your memory package of photos and video from the expedition — and memories of Shackleton's route, South Georgia's penguin colonies, and Antarctica's ice that will last a lifetime. Please book your flight home out of Buenos Aires after 9:30 PM. Ask Rick and Tracey about extending your stay in Buenos Aires — the city rewards an extra day or two. Meals: B
